Day 2 Irish U-16’s and U-14’s Boy’s Amateur Open Championship

Day 2 in Banbridge was cut day. In the U-16’s Toby Murphy shot 4 over in the second round to return a score of +9 to make the cut in tied 31st. The lead is held by Adam Fahey(Portmarnock) at 4 under. The cut came at 10 over.

In the U-14’s section Ruadhan Murray returned a score of 81 to finish on a two round total of 16 over and made the cut for the 3rd round tomorrow.

Dylan Cavazza unfortunately missed the cut after a 2nd round of 87 left him on a total of 27 over.

The lead is held by Ollie McEvoy (Ballycastle) at one over. The cut came at 17 over.

Best of luck to Toby and Ruadhan tomorrow and commiserations to Dylan.

Irish Girls Amateur Close Plate

Isabella Stewart had qualified for the Irish Girls Amateur Close Plate through her play in the AIG Irish Women’s Close Championship which took place over the last couple of days in Roscommon GC.

Her opponent was Jiayi Mairead Pang of Milltown GC. After winning two and losing two of the first 6 holes the Milltown girl took control of the match winning the 8th and 9th to be two up at the half way stage. Isabella won 11 to get back to one down however her opponent quickly re-established her dominance winning 12 & 13 to be 3 up.

Again Isabella got a hole back winning the 15th to keep her hopes alive. However the Milltown girl won the 16th to take the match 3 & 2 to go through to the quarter finals.

Congratulations to Isabella on making it through to the matchplay stages.

Day 1 Irish U-14 & U16’s Boy’s Amateur Open Championship

Banbridge GC was the venue for the Irish U-14 and U-16’s Boy’s Amateur Open Championship.

On day 1 Toby Murphy shot 5 over to be in tied 31st place in a field of 90. The leaders are Jax McWilliams (Tandragee GC) and Eoin Burrows (Belvoir Park) at 2 under. Toby tees off at 1.05pm in the 2nd round.

In the U-14’s section Ruadhan Murray is tied 7th after a round of+4 and Dylan Cavazza is tied 27 at 9 over. The leaders at level par are John Moran (Portmarnock) and Ollie Murphy (Ballycastle). Ruadhan tees off at 8.10 am and Dylan at 9.40am in the second round.

Best of luck to all 3 players in the 2nd round as they look to make the 3rd round.

Day 2 Irish Women’s and Girls Amateur Close Championship

Day 2 in Roscommon GC was all about qualifying for the matchplay phase of the championship.

Isabella Stewart has qualified for the last 16 of the Irish Girls Amateur Close Plate after recording a second 76 which left her on +6 and tied 8th in the U-18 section and tied 16th in the overall championship. She will play Jiayi Mairead Pang (Milltown) in the last 16 teeing off at 9.52am.

Shauna Seifried finished in 54th overall and 29th in the U-18 section at 21 over after a 2nd round of 11 over. Unfortunately Shauna does not make the matchplay phase of the championship.

Day 1 Irish Women’s and Girls Amateur Close Championship

Roscommon was the venue on day 1 of the Irish Women’s and Girls Amateur Open Championship.

First up from Greystones was Isabella Stewart and she recorded a 3 over par score which left her in tied 20th in the Women’s and tied 9th in the U-18s section.

Shauna Seifried was out 2nd representative and she returned a score of 10 over which left her tied 46th in the Women’s and tied 23rd in the U-18s section.

The overall leader is Anna Dawson (Tramore) with a score of 8 under while Anna Abom (Edmondstown) leads the U-18s on one under par.

Tomorrow in round two Shauna tees off at 9.06am while Isabella heads out at 12.46pm.

Irish U-14’s & U-16’s Boys’ Amateur Open Championship

The Irish U-14’s and U-16’s Boy’s Amateur Open Championship takes place from Wednesday to Friday this week at Banbridge GC.

Three of our young members are taking part.

Toby Murphy is  in the U-16’s and will tee off on Wednesday at 8.45am.

In the U-14’s Ruadhan Murray and Dylan Cavazza will tee off at 1.35pm and 3.05pm respectively.

Leinster U-16’s Boy’s Open Championship

The Leinster U-16’s Boy’s Open Championship took place on Monday at Ashbourne GC.

Toby Murphy was our sole representative in the field of 120 players. Toby finished in tied 26th place with a score of 6 over.

The Championship was won by Donnacha Halpin (Shannon) after a three hole playoff with Cole Henderson (Galgorm Castle) and John William Burke (Ballyhaunis) after they tied on level par.

Irish Women’s Amateur Close Championship

Roscommon GC is the venue for the AIG Irish Women’s Amateur Close Championship which starts on Tuesday 30th July.

Greystones have two representatives in the field. First up at 8.55am will be Isabella Stewart. Then at 12.02pm Shauna Seifried will take to the 1st tee.

Powerscourt Cup team defeated by Old Conna

Our Powerscourt Cup team were up against Old Conna GC in a second round match. Format is scotch foursomes and Old Conna had the advantage of 3 matches at home and 2 in Greystones.

Trevor Phillips and Stephen O’Brien selected the following team. At home Andy Nolan with Billy Byrne and Pete Murray with Michael Bolton, away from home Dermot Barry was with John Burke, Jonathan Kirwan with Dermot Whiston and Michael Whelan with Colin Watchorn.

Dermot and John had a good start and were 2 up after 4 but were pegged back straight away to be level after 6. Old Conna took the lead on 9 to be one up.

Jonathan and Dermot went one down after 2 but  won 4 of the next 5 holes to be 3 up after 7. Old Conna won the short 8th to get back to 2 down at the turn.

Michael and John were last up away from home and were up against it early on. Two down after 2, then 4 down after 6. As hard as the lads fought they were 6 down after 9.

At home Andy and Billy were up 1st and after halving the first and second they lost the next four. They then won 7 & 8 to be two down through 9.

Pete and Michael were away next and were quickly 2 up after 3. There opponents then won 4 & 5 to be level again. Pete and Michael won the 8th to be one up heading down the lane.

In Old Conna Michael and Colin were in an impossible position and Old Conna picked up their first point by winning 11 & 12.

Dermot and John who had been one down after 9 went two down on the 12th. Old Conna extended their lead to 3 on 14. Two halves confirmed another point for Old Conna.

Jonathan and Dermot lost ten and twelve to be back to level. They then lost 15 and won 16 to remain level. A half on 17 sent the match down 18 all square. Greystones needed a win to keep the match alive however Old Conna took the win and match.

Andy and Billy were called in at 3 down through 12, while Pete and Michael were called in 3 up through 12 as well.

Commiserations to Stephen and Trevor and the team.
