Playing in Greystones Michelle Knapp with her caddy Patricia O ‘Sullivan won 5 and 4.   Grace Dodd and her caddy Áine O’Rourke won 7 and 6.  Trudy Bolton with her caddy Orla Rushe, who was also sub were one up on 14  and happy to be called in when we won 2 away matches.

Our Lower HC ladies played in St Helen’s Bay, Wexford.   Marguerite Hamill had comfortable win,  her caddy Jean described Marguerite’s golf “ poetry in motion” (she is her sister in law!)
Ger O Shea, with her son Fintan on the bag fought well but unfortunately lost.
Amanda Lawless & caddy Janet Redmond stood on 18th all square.  Amanda hit an “out of sight shot”. Is it OB or in the sea?   Opponent laid up, short tricky par 4. Fortunately Amanda was safely on the  green and secured a birdie.

Leinster Men’s Senior Interclub lose to Naas

Our Men’s Leinster Senior Interclub team were playing there 3rd round against Naas Golf Club. Trevor Phillips was looking after things in Naas while Stephen O’Brien was in charge at home. The team selected were as follows:

Home:

  • Neil Lawless and Paul Creedon
  • Michael Whelan and Macdara Cummins

Away:

  • Colm Drew and Conor Lucey
  • Dermot Barry and Andy Nolan

Naas got off to a good start in the first game and we’re two up after 7 holes. They added another win on 9 to be 3 up against Neil and Paul.

In the second game Michael and Macdara were two down after 3 but won 4 of the next 5 holes. Naas pulled one back on 9 for Greystones to be one up at the turn.

Meanwhile away in Colm and Conor were up first and got away to a steady start and were all square after 4 holes. They won 2 and lost one of the next three and were one up after 9.

Dermot and Andy had a tough start and found themselves 2 down after 4 but steadied the ship and remained 2 down after 9.

At home Paul and Neil were looking to reel in their opposition and started well by winning the tenth. However wins by Naas on 13 and 16 meant Naas went one ahead after a 4&2 win

Macdara and Michael also won ten to go 2 up. Another win on 13 put them in control but two quick wins by Naas on 14 and 15 made things interesting again. A win on 17 closed the match out 2&1 and levelled the tie at one all.

All eyes now were on Naas as they had started half an hour later.

Andy and Dermot won the tenth to trim the deficit to one. Unfortunately that was as close as they got as Naas pressed home their advantage by winning 12, 15 and 16 to win 4&2. Naas now were 2-1 up.

Last match out were Colm and Conor. They extended their lead to 2 by winning the 11th. Naas had their backs against the wall and came out fighting and won the 13th, 15th and 16th to go one up. A half on 17 was all Naas needed to guarantee the half point they needed to progress to the next round.

Commiserations to Trevor and Stephen and the team and best of luck to Naas in the next round.

Ray’s first hole in one!!!

If you are wondering what all the screaming was this morning at about 11:30am you will be pleased to know that it was not a crowd of Taylor Swift fans let loose on the golf course.

It was in fact Ray Crotty’s fourball celebrating his first hole in one on the 14th hole. I believe the celebrations could be heard up on the 7th green.

Congratulations Ray and I hope you enjoyed the pint from Lady Captain Ciara.

Senior Cup team defeat Lucan

Our Senior Cup team were up against Lucan Golf Club in the quarter finals of the Leinster South Area. The venue for all four quarter finals was Edmondstown Golf Club.

Karl Holmes named the following team Dylan Holmes, Will O’Riordan, Alan Condren, Jamie Anderson and David Byrne.

First away was Dylan and in a tight game was all square through 9 holes after winning the 8th. Will was up next and after an eventful week in Cork he was in difficulties on the front 9 and was 2 down at the turn.

Alan was out 3rd and was 3 up after 4 holes and after losing the 8th was still 2 up heading for the 10th hole. Jamie was 4th in line and got off to a great start and was 3 up after 9 holes.

Finally David took to the tee and was level through 3 but then took over the match and won 4 holes in a row. David then swapped holes with his opponent and was 4 up after 9.

So with Greystones up in 3 matches things were looking good but you can never count your chicken’s in golf.

Dylan won 4 of his next 5 holes to take command of his game and gained the first point after winning 16 to win 4&2.

Will could not wrestle control of his match back from his opponent and was defeated 4&2. One all.

Alan won the 12th to go 2 up again and swapped a couple of holes with his opponent before closing the match out 2&1. Two one to Greystones.

David won the 12th to go 5 up and finished the match off 5&4. Three one to Greystones and Jamie was called in while 2 up with 3 to play.

Congratulations to Karl and his team. The next round will be on the 11th August at Rathfarnham Golf Club where the opponents will be Blainroe. Dun Laoghaire and Elm Park were the other winners on the day.

Further details will be posted here when available.
