When the golf club received a call at 9.30 am on Monday, 14th October to see if the course was open, a chain of events was set in motion that culminated in the visit of the Open Champion, Shane Lowry with the most famous trophy in golf. Below is Shane, the claret jug, and the President, Captains and Vice-Captains pictured in front of the clubhouse.

Congratulations to Alan Condren on winning a silver medal at the European Senior Men’s Team Championship. Alan was the star performer for Ireland returning the best score in the strokeplay and remaining unbeaten throughout the matchplay section.

Next up for Greystones Golf Club’s seniors internationals is Barry O’Leary who has been selected for the Seniors Home Internationals team which will be played in Northumberland from 17 – 19 September. This will be Barry’s third time representing his country. We wish Barry and the team every success in the competition.

Congratulations to both Alan and Barry for representing their club and country so proudly.

Alan Condren is making his debut for the Irish Seniors this week in Denmark. So far Ireland have done brilliantly with Alan having one of the best 36 hole scores in qualifying. Yesterday they beat defending champions Germany in the knockout stages and today we play hosts Denmark in the semi finals. Best of luck Alan. You can follow the matches on the EGA or GUI websites. Many congratulations to Lesley O’Riordan on winning Lady Vice-Captain Hazel’s prize. Congratulations also to runner-up Rosie Lee and Best Gross winner Iris Haughton.

Many congratulations to Monica Smith, Angela Shaw on winning Lady Captain Mary’s MS Charity Competition.

 

Many congratulations to Noelle Aherne on winning the Jo Cooney Memorial Trophy.

Congratulations to our Cullen Cup team who brought home the cup in some style. Up against strong opposition from Newbridge Golf Club the final was played in Baltinglass Golf Club.

The pairings of Donal and Inesa O’Gallagher, Alan Keane and Aisling Marmion and Alan Condren and Nicky Brooks all won their matches to secure the victory. With the pairings of Barry O’Leary and Amanda Lawless and Adam Packman and Geraldine O’Shea ahead in their matches on the course it truly was a dominant display.

Pictured below is the team which was ably assisted by subs Frank and Ciara Marmion and brilliantly managed by Pat and Nuala Mahon.

Many congratulations to Garry Campbell on winning another gold medal for Ireland at the World Transplant Games 2019. Garry won for the best gross in his age category with a score of +9. In fact Garry’s score was the second lowest gross score of the 100 competitors across all age ranges. The competition took place at Close House which was also the scene of Paul Dunne’s British Masters win. What an inspiration for so many and a credit to his club and country.
