On a very wet and windy day on Monday 13th May, the Intermediate Foursomes Team managed by Orla Delaney got their 2024 Championship going on what was one of the worst days of golfing weather….especially in Bray where the girls had to contend with fog and mist as well as driving rain and very poor visibility.
The two home teams got off to a flying start and great golf was played with the first pairing Amanda Lawless and Sandra Cotter closing their match very early on 14…a great win.
Trish Shiel and Aine ORourke got the job done, only needing a half on 18 to comfortably win their match. Two in the bag
The two pairings away, Jacinta Deane and Joyce Kirwan (first pairing) and Iris Haughton and Orla Delaney (2nd pairing) were up against very strong opposition as well as the elements and lost their away matches. As Bray had home advantage the play off was held in Bray.
Jacinta and Joyce had been picked beforehand as the play off pair and they got off to a flying start with a magnificent drive by Joyce on first play off role which they managed to half. Then Jacinta had an excellent drive on the second par 3 and stitched it and a par was enough to clinch the match.
Well done everyone!
Also well done to our President John Langrell, Lady Captain Ciara, Marguerite, Therese, Helen, Janet,
Mary and Niamh for coming out and supporting in such terrible conditions.
