Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to all of the parents and boys and girls who attended the prizegiving in the Clubhouse after the competition. Our majors are special days and it was great to see everyone after.

A huge thank you to Ciara and Mark, for both your prizes today and your ongoing support for Junior golf in GGC. We have a Junior Section that is the envy of many clubs!

Thank you also to Paul, Jackie and the team behind the bar and also to Ali, Liz, Olivia and the team in the kitchen who fed and watered everybody.

We also had a busy week in the provincial championships. Will O’Riordan was just pipped at the finish line when he was beaten in a play-off for the Munster U18 Boys after shooting a great final round of 2 under par 69, playing his last 6 holes in 3 under par. This followed Will’s 3rd place finish in the Leinster U18 Boys a few weeks ago – great golf Will! Dylan Holmes was tied 22nd, while Jamie Anderson and Toby Murphy also played. And well done to Dylan, Jamie and Will who played for our Mens Senior Cup team today in a great win over Lucan in the Leinster South Area quarter-final.

Isabella Stewart shot a final round of 73 to finish tied 5th in the Munster U18 Girls and Shauna Seifried finished in 12th place after a final round of 79 (Sinead is following you Shauna after a great score today!). Well done ladies!

Up in Tyrone, Ruadhán Murray shot a 77 to finish in 8th place in the Ulster U14 Boys. Ruadhán will make his interprovincial debut in 2 weeks time for the Leinster U14s when they play Ulster. Well done Ruadhán!

Senior Cup team defeat Lucan

Our Senior Cup team were up against Lucan Golf Club in the quarter finals of the Leinster South Area. The venue for all four quarter finals was Edmondstown Golf Club.

Karl Holmes named the following team Dylan Holmes, Will O’Riordan, Alan Condren, Jamie Anderson and David Byrne.

First away was Dylan and in a tight game was all square through 9 holes after winning the 8th. Will was up next and after an eventful week in Cork he was in difficulties on the front 9 and was 2 down at the turn.

Alan was out 3rd and was 3 up after 4 holes and after losing the 8th was still 2 up heading for the 10th hole. Jamie was 4th in line and got off to a great start and was 3 up after 9 holes.

Finally David took to the tee and was level through 3 but then took over the match and won 4 holes in a row. David then swapped holes with his opponent and was 4 up after 9.

So with Greystones up in 3 matches things were looking good but you can never count your chicken’s in golf.

Dylan won 4 of his next 5 holes to take command of his game and gained the first point after winning 16 to win 4&2.

Will could not wrestle control of his match back from his opponent and was defeated 4&2. One all.

Alan won the 12th to go 2 up again and swapped a couple of holes with his opponent before closing the match out 2&1. Two one to Greystones.

David won the 12th to go 5 up and finished the match off 5&4. Three one to Greystones and Jamie was called in while 2 up with 3 to play.

Congratulations to Karl and his team. The next round will be on the 11th August at Rathfarnham Golf Club where the opponents will be Blainroe. Dun Laoghaire and Elm Park were the other winners on the day.

Further details will be posted here when available.

Will O’Riordan pipped in play-off in Munster

Four Greystones members were still in the field as the Munster U-18s Amateur Open Championship entered its final day.

In the Boys Will O’Riordan was tied 3rd and Dylan Holmes was tied 26th entering the final day .

Will finished really strong and was 3 under for his last 6 holes to record his second 69 of the week to finish on 2 under. This meant Will was in a playoff as the leader, Daniel McKenna (Co. Louth) shot 77.

In the playoff the Louth man hit it stone dead on the first playoff hole for birdie to Will’s par. Will was one of only three players to have two under par rounds during the championship.

Congratulations to Will on a great performance over the three days.

Dylan had a final round of 76 to finish on a total of +12 and in tied 22nd.

Isabella Stewart and Shauna Seifried entered the 3rd round in tied 7th and tied 12th respectively.

Shauna shot 79 to finish 18 over and in 12th place. Isabella had a one under 73 to finish at +8 and tied 5th. The Championship was won by Lucy Grattan (Tralee) at level par.

Well done to all the Greystones Juniors who are representing the club so well every week.

Captains Prize for Juniors – Saturday 13 July 2024

Our Captains Ciara Marmion and Mark McAleer will host their Captain’s Prize to the Juniors this Saturday, 13 July.

Both Ciara and Mark are massive supporters and advocates of our Junior Section, with Mark previously holding the position of Junior Convenor. This is the first of our three majors this season and we are looking to have as many of our juniors playing as possible.

The timesheet is now live. If lines fill up for your category, please contact the pro shop and they will add more lines.

The entry fee is €10 to include food afterwards.

The prize giving will take place at approx 8.30pm in the clubhouse and as ever, it would be great to have a big turnout of both players and parents. Our majors are as much about the social aspect of our extensive Junior golf programme, including for the parents, so please try and make the prize giving.
