We kicked off this year’s Wicklow Cup in amazing style with an away fixture in Dun Laoghaire golf club yesterday afternoon.
Co-managers Declan Murphy (on-course) and Declan Murray (off-course, on holidays!) fielded a mixed team of varying experience levels and our six boys and four girls delivered an incredible 5 away wins!
We got off to fast starts in all five matches and all played some brilliant golf in the scotch foresomes format. With the away team starting one-up in each match, we were never down in any match at any stage.
The final match results were:
To win all five matches away from home by the 14th is an incredible achievement! We fielded a team of eight Blues and want to give special mention to Emma Haugh and Aoife Dempsey, our two Reds who played. Aoife won Davie’s professional prize for Whites last week and will be playing her first Reds 14 hole competition today. This was Aoife’s first inter-club match and she played great golf yesterday with the experienced Marc Lawless. Well done Emma and Aoife!
We play our next match at home against Wicklow before 6 August.
Well done again guys, we are incredibly proud of you all!
Well done to Shauna Seifried who came second in the gross competition of the Ria Kenny today at Elm Park. Shauna shot 22 points gross ( 35 nett ) and was one behind the winner.
In the nett competition, Doireann Dowdall shot an excellent 39 points to finish sixth. Daisy Jo Jolly, from Dun Laoighaire shot 48 points today off a handicap of 34 to win the overall nett event.
