We host our final major of the season, President John Langrell’s Prize for the Juniors next Saturday. The entry fee is €10 including food after and the timesheet will go live on Tuesday evening at 8.15pm. As ever, we want to have as many juniors playing as possible and hope to see all parents there for the prizegiving. John is a former Captain and a massive supporter of our Junior section so we look forward to giving him a great day next Saturday!

Our Boys U15 team play Newbridge today in the quarter-final of the Leinster U15s at 2.30pm – all support needed to make the most of our home advantage. Team Manager George O’Brien is away, so Chris Lawless is stepping in today following the great away win over The Castle a few weeks ago. The very best of luck to Ruadhán, Dylan, JP, Conor, Ollie and John today. Play well boys!

And finally, Toby Murphy is travelling to Italy today to play in the Italian U16 Boys Open. Buona fortuna Toby!

Professionals Prize for Juniors – 17 August 2024

We hosted our second major of the year, Davie’s Professional Prize for the Juniors, today. We had 71 boys and girls playing (possibly a new record?) and there was a great evening in the clubhouse after for the prizegiving.

Our Mens Captain, and former Junior Convenor, Mark McAleer was on hand to introduce Davie and our Junior Boys Captain, Dylan Holmes, to call out the results and present the prizes. The overall winner was Ruadhán Murray with 38 points / 71 gross, beating Jane Lumley on countback. Well done Ruadhán on a great score. The gross prize was won by Will O’Riordan who topped off a great week having also won the Wicklow Boys on Tuesday!

Well done to all of our prize winners and our category winners – James Ward in Reds, Ava Melody in Whites and Sean Hughes in 7Ups.

A big thank you to Davie who gives so much time to our Juniors, and also to Ben and Keith. The year round coaching which they provide is evident to see in the progress all of the boys and girls are making. Thank you also Ali, Liz, Olivia and Holly for feeding everybody, and Paul, Áine and the team behind the bar.

Also thank you to all of our starters and card markers today – we can only run weekly competitions for the Juniors with the help of parents!

Best of luck this week to Karl, Pete, Michael and all of the Fred Daly panel – Dylan Holmes, Jamie Anderson, Will O’Riordan, Toby Murphy, Jack McGovern, Milo Doyle, Ruadhán Murray and Marc Lawless – who play Edenderry in the All-Ireland quarter final on Tuesday in Warrenpoint GC. The whole club is behind you guys!

Wicklow Cup Win Against Woodbrook

Our junior boys capped off a great day for the GGC junior section with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Woodbrook GC this evening.

With home advantage, we started each match one hole down, but under the excellent guidance of new team manager Anto Byrne, the boys played some great golf on a lovely evening to record a fine win.

Match 1 – Aaron Hickey & John Byrne won 5&4

Match 2 – Dylan Cavazza & Harry Greenan won 2&1

Match 3 – Adam Moore & Jack Daly won 4&3

Match 4 – JP Lynch & Nathan Byrne won 3&1

Match 5 – Ollie Packman & James Power lost 3&2

Harry, Jack, Nathan and James made their competitive debuts for GGC this evening and special thanks to Dylan and Ollie, who followed up their heroics this morning in the U15s win over The Castle GC by playing again this evening!
