Timesheet will go live for next Saturday on Tuesday evening.

Best of luck to Toby, Ruadhán, Conor and Dylan in their Leinster U15s match away to Edenderry tomorrow, and to our Juniors who are playing in the Wicklow Boys on Monday, including our defending, and two time Champion, Dylan Holmes.

And finally, congratulations to Dylan and our Junior Boys Captain, Jamie Anderson, who were both selected for the Leinster U-18 Inter Provincial Team for the InterPros which take place in Tipperary on 23-25 August. Well done guys, a fantastic achievement for two very talented and dedicated golfers. Everyone in GGC will be cheering you on (and please leave a little in reserve for the Fred Daly final!).

Well done to all of our prize winners in our second major of 2023, the Lady and Mens Captains Prize, with the main Blues prize won by Dylan Cavazza who had a great score of 40 points in very blustery conditions. We had 53 boys and girls playing and there was a great atmosphere in the Clubhouse after for food and the prizegiving.

A huge thank you to our Lady Captain, Celine, and our Men’s Captain, John for their support of the Junior section in GGC. After a busy morning watching three of our Juniors – Toby, Will and Jack – play brilliant golf for our victorious Mens Junior Cup team in Wicklow GC in the Leinster South Final, they spent the afternoon on the first tee seeing all 53 boys and girls out to play, before presenting the very generous prizes which they gave to each category, with the results expertly called by our Junior Girls Captain, Isabella, and our Junior Boys Captain, Jamie.

A big thank you to Ali, Liz, Olivia and the catering team for feeding everybody, and to Paul and Conor behind the bar.

Finally, thank you to Karl who gave the brilliant prizes for our draw – four Shane Lowry golf balls, a signed glove and hat and signed hats from Billy Horshel, Alex Noren and World Number 6 Xander Shauffele (well done Sal Maxwell!).

Wicklow Cup – Round 1 v Dun Laoghaire

July 8, 2023 by Junior Editor

We kicked off this year’s Wicklow Cup in amazing style with an away fixture in Dun Laoghaire golf club yesterday afternoon.

Co-managers Declan Murphy (on-course) and Declan Murray (off-course, on holidays!) fielded a mixed team of varying experience levels and our six boys and four girls delivered an incredible 5 away wins!

We got off to fast starts in all five matches and all played some brilliant golf in the scotch foresomes format. With the away team starting one-up in each match, we were never down in any match at any stage.

The final match results were:

  1. Sophie Lumley and Tom Murphy beat Jane McElligot and Emily Charlton on the 13th
  2. Shauna Seifried and JP Lynch beat Mark Fitzgerald and Sean Nolan on 14th
  3. Marc Lawless and Aoife Dempsey beat Max Flynn and Noah Byrne on the 11th
  4. Milo Doyle and Emma Haugh beat Harry Ryan and Elijah Kim on the 13th
  5. Leo Murphy and John Byrne beat Dave MacMahon Jnr and Max Finley on the 13th

To win all five matches away from home by the 14th is an incredible achievement! We fielded a team of eight Blues and want to give special mention to Emma Haugh and Aoife Dempsey, our two Reds who played. Aoife won Davie’s professional prize for Whites last week and will be playing her first Reds 14 hole competition today. This was Aoife’s first inter-club match and she played great golf yesterday with the experienced Marc Lawless. Well done Emma and Aoife!

We play our next match at home against Wicklow before 6 August.

Well done again guys, we are incredibly proud of you all!

Well done to all of our prize winners in our first major of 2023, the Professionals Prize, with the main Blues prize won by Tom Murphy who had a great score of 41 points. We had 51 boys and girls playing and there was a great atmosphere in the Clubhouse after for food and Davie’s prizegiving. Having merged the girls and boys section this year for the first time, it was great to see Lili, Aoife and Vanessa winning the Reds, Whites and 7Up main prizes, and Sophie taking home the Blues gross prize. Well done ladies!

Special thank you to our professional Davie Lewis, and our Boys Junior Captain, Jamie Anderson, for a great prizegiving. Also to Ali, Liz and the catering team for feeding everybody, and Paul and Alan behind the bar.

Out of 37 boys and girls playing Reds, Whites and 7Ups yesterday, there are 4 handicap cuts and 5 category changes. There was some great scoring in difficult conditions and it is great to see the progress everybody is making after just 2 months of competitions. Please take Davie’s comments on board and encourage your sons and daughters to get up to the Club to practice more between competitions!

Normal competition next Saturday followed by a week off on 15 July as the Mens Captain’s Prize is taking place. Our next major, President Marguerite Hamill’s prize for the Juniors, will take place on Saturday, 29 July.
