Clean Sweep of Wins for our Inter-Club Teams Last Sunday

Greystones Golf Club enjoyed a busy and eventful weekend across multiple interclub competitions, with teams competing in the Leinster Senior Cup, Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen Shield, and Irish Junior Foursomes. There were some excellent performances, dramatic finishes, and a healthy mix of results that reflect both the strength and depth of the club’s panels. Here’s a full round-up of the action.

The Junior Cup team delivered a dominant display at home against Woodbrook, running out convincing 4-1 winners in the junior cup Leinster south competition. Eddie Lonergan came through a closely fought battle to win on the final hole, finishing 1 up through 18. Chris Lawless put on a clinical performance, sealing his match early with an emphatic 7 up win through 13 holes. Chris Boylan followed with another strong showing, closing out his game 4 up through 15. Milo Doyle was in control of his match, 2 up through 15, before it was called. Conor McAleer’s match was 2 up through 12, before it was also called in. It was an impressive all-round performance from the squad. Next up is Carton House.

Greystones Senior Cup team also enjoyed success at home, posting a strong 4–1 win over Grange Castle. William O’Riordan was in blistering form, powering to an 8 up victory through just 11 holes. Adam Packman added another point with a composed 5 up win through 14, Shane O’Connor added the final point to confirm the win with a 7 up win through 13 holes. Jamie Anderson’s match was called halved after 12 holes, while Alan Condren matched that result in a steady performance through 13. It was a commanding team effort and a great result to continue the momentum for the club in the senior cup Leinster south competition.

Greystones faced Coolattin in the Jimmy Bruen Shield on Sunday in a tense home and away clash. Two matches were played at home and two away. At home, Ray Nolan and Colm Mulcahy were dominant, winning their match 7&6. Fergal Duffy and Des Cullen battled hard but came up short, losing 3&2 on the 16th. Away from home, Ray McDonnell and Trevor Phillips struggled to find their rhythm and were defeated 6 up. Barry Massey and Alan Byrne staged a thrilling comeback, 3 down through 5, the pair managed to turn the match around brilliantly and seal a victory with a 2 up win on the 18th.

With the overall score tied 2-2, a sudden-death playoff followed at Coolattin. Barry Massey and Alan Byrne returned to the tee and delivered again, winning the playoff hole to secure the overall victory for Greystones.

The Irish Junior Foursomes team delivered a confident and composed performance in their tie against Grange. The pairing of Ruadhann Murray and JP Lynch combined superbly, while Ollie Packman and Dylan Cavazza showed great teamwork and consistency. Both pairings secured comfortable victories to seal an impressive win for Greystones in the opening round of the competition.
