Strong Performances Across a Busy Weekend of Inter-Club Matches

It was a packed weekend of competitive inter-club golf for Greystones, with teams representing the club across three different competitions: the Irish Mixed Foursomes, the Leinster Men’s Trophy and the Leinster Senior Men’s Inter Club. With matches played both home and away

Irish Mixed Foursomes

Greystones Golf Club secured a hard-fought victory over Wicklow in the latest round of the Irish Mixed Foursomes, with a final scoreline of 2.5 – 1.5 in favour of Greystones.

At home in Greystones, Barry O’Leary and Patricia Moore set the tone early with a commanding performance. They wrapped up their match on the 14th hole with a dominant 5&4 win, giving Greystones an early boost. Eddie Lonergan and Regina Barry followed up with a closely contested encounter that went the full distance. Their match was halved after 18 holes, adding a crucial half-point to the home side’s tally.

Meanwhile, over in Wicklow, Diarmuid MacGabhann and Helen Creedon, fought hard but narrowly lost their match on the 17th hole, going down 2&1. That result brought Wicklow back into contention, setting the stage for a decisive final game.

Also away from home, Des Hickey and Sandra Cotter showed great resilience under pressure. Their match went all the way to the 18th, where they held on to secure a 1 up win. A result that clinched the overall victory for Greystones.

It was a tightly contested and well-spirited match-up, with strong performances both at home and away. Congratulations to all players and management. Next up is Woodbrook in the next round.

Leinster Men’s Trophy

Greystones Golf Club secured a hard-fought win over Powerscourt in the Leinster Men’s Trophy, edging the contest by 4 matches to 3 in what proved to be a tightly contested affair.

At home, Greystones delivered three crucial points. Conor Dignam, JP Lynch, and Michael Smullen all put in strong performances to ensure the hosts held the upper hand. Despite a valiant effort from David O’Toole, Powerscourt managed to claim that match and keep the pressure on.

Away from home, Mark Byrne produced a standout display to notch up an impressive win, adding a vital point to the Greystones total. While Simon Phillips and Evan Dalton fought hard in their matches, both were narrowly edged out by their Powerscourt opponents.

Ultimately, it was a determined team effort across both venues that earned Greystones a 4–3 win and progression in the competition. Congratulations to all players and management involved on a great result.

Leinster Senior Men’s Interclub

Greystones faced Milltown in what proved to be a challenging encounter in the Leinster Senior Men’s Interclub competition. Despite the result not falling in our favour, the team put in a committed performance against strong opposition.
