Greystones Under 15s and Wicklow Cup teams record wins ….

Greystones U15s played Blainroe on Thursday 13th and had an excellent 4-1 win in ideal conditions, with three of the matches being played away.  Well done to Jamie Anderson, Dylan Holmes, Toby Murphy,  Jack McGovern and  Calum McNulty.    The next match will be a Leinster quarter final – opponents to be confirmed.

Later in the afternoon we played Old Conna in the Wicklow Cup. We had a much younger team than our opponents and played really well to recorded a 3-2 result, winning 2 matches, halving two and losing one.  Well done to Daragh Rush, Milo Doyle, Brook Mangan, Kevin Dillon, Sean McCormack, Marc Lawless, Emmet Gulliver and Tom Murray.

Update: Inter Club Team Golf 2020

This weekend sees the belated start to Inter Club Team Golf in 2020. Four Greystones Golf Club Teams are in action over the coming weekend. First up are the Jimmy Bruen Team managed by Alan Byrne and his assistants Pat O’ Regan and Dave Mangan, who are playing Powerscourt Golf Club in a home and away fixture on Friday 24th July 2020. There are three matches at home and two matches away in Powerscourt. Both sets of matches tee off at 16:20. The team selected to represent Greystones Golf Club against Powerscourt in the first round of this competition is as follows:

Next up are the Senior Cup team managed by the Selection Committee who play Wicklow Golf Club on Sunday 26th July 2020. Here we have two matches at home and three away. Both sets of matches tee off at 15:00. The team selected to represent Greystones Golf Club against Wicklow in the first round of this competition is as follows:

Next in action on Sunday representing Greystones Golf Club are the Pierce Purcell Team managed by Mark Byrne who have been drawn against Charlesland Golf Club. In this match we have three matches at home and two away. Both sets of matches tee off at 15:30. The team for the Pierce Purcell has yet to be announced.

Finally, on Sunday the Junior Cup team managed by Colm Mulcahy take on Druids Heath in the first round. In this competition we have three matches at home and two away in Druids Heath. Both sets of matches tee off at 16:20. The team representing Greystones Golf Club against Druid Heath is as follows:

Darcy Trophy Update

Darcy Trophy Match Powerscourt V Greystones in Powerscourt March 1st 2020.

Greystones played their fifth group match in the Darcy Trophy away to Powerscourt yesterday in incredibly tough conditions. The conditions together with the early start of 7.30am made this a daunting prospect but for the fifth time in this competition the Darcy team were equal to the challenge.

David Byrne set the tone for an impressively resilient performance with a 6&5 win in the opening singles and our Team Captain Alan Condron won his singles match 3&2. In the last match on the course Eddie Lonergan and Daniel O’ Byrne secured a hard fought halve to ensure the overall match was drawn at 2 &1/2 points each.

This leaves Greystones unbeaten and top of our group with 7 points from five matches. We have won both our home matches and drawn our three away matches. Our final match is at home to Druid’s Heath on March 15th and all support would be very welcome.

Finally many thanks to President Liam O’ Shea, Kieran O’Carroll and Colm Mulcahy for coming up to Powerscourt and supporting the team. As always it was very much appreciated.

Darcy Trophy Update

Report on Elm Park V Greystones 23/02/2020.

Greystones played their rescheduled Eamonn Darcy Trophy match on Sunday 23rd of February in Elm Park Golf Club. Greystones went into the match defending an unbeaten record in this year’s competition and emerged unbeaten as they halved the match with Elm Park with 2.5 points each. Alan Condren, our team captain, and Donal O’Gallagher both won their singles matches and Eddie Lonergan and Niall Gaffney halved their foursomes after a magnificent up and down on 18th to win the hole and square their match.

Many thanks to Captain David Kirby, President Liam O’ Shea and Kieran O’ Carroll for supporting the team on the day which was very much appreciated.

We have now put ourselves in a great position to qualify for the final day in Dun Laoghaire on April 5th 2020 with two games of the league format remaining. We are away to Powerscourt next Sunday, the 1st of March and at home to Druids Heath on a date yet to be arranged. The match against Powerscourt next Sunday tees off at 7:30am and all support for this important match would be most welcome.

Teams Update

January 2019

Inter Club Teams Upate:

Greystones Golf Club had an excellent hard fought win over Powerscourt Golf Club in the Eamonn D’Arcy Trophy at home on Sunday 12th of January. The Final Score was 3-2 to Greystones and included impressive wins for Alan Condron in the top singles and foursomes pairings of Marcus Looby with Niall Gafney and David Byrne with Barry O’Leary. This is the teams second win from two matches in this year’s competition as they beat Elm Park Golf Club 3&1/2 to 1&1/2 on Sunday 1st of December 2019 and as can be seen top our group with 4 points from two matches. This leaves us well positioned to qualify from this group into the Semi Finals of The Eamonn D’Arcy Trophy in Dun Laoghaire Golf Club on April 5th 2020 (AM).  Our next match is away in Druids Heath on Saturday 25th January 2020 with first match out at 8:40am. All support would be very much welcomed.

Sunday 19th January 2020.

On Sunday 19th of this month we are trying something a little bit different and are holding a trial/ competition for two of the teams who will represent Greystones Golf Club in the coming year, The Barton Cup,  and the All Ireland Mixed. This is a new idea that is a due to the recognition that in the past some club teams have been asked to play inter club matches/ strokes qualifying without having any previous practice or competitive action in what is a very difficult format of golf, straight foursomes.

We want the day to be competitive and hence that is why we are running a 14 holes competition which will commence at 12.20. The timesheet will be posted on the BRS system and your team managers will also be in touch to confirm details. So for all those asked to play well done, the team managers & I will see you up there on Sunday for what will hopefully be an enjoyable day with a high standard of golf.

Interclub Cups and Shields Teams 2020

Greystones Golf Club would like to invite members to express their interest in being considered to represent the Club in Inter Club competitions in 2020. A notice has been posted in the Locker Room for this purpose.

Once added to the list your name will be forwarded to the appropriate team manager for the competition(s) that your handicap qualifies for. The team manager will then contact you and detail his plans regarding the preparation of that team for the competition ahead. The following dates have been provided by the Leinster Branch GUI for the Barton Shield, Senior Cup and Pierce Purcell.

Barton Shield 13th / 14th June 2020 in Dun Laoghaire Golf Club.
Senior Cup 27th/ 28th June 2020 with venue to be confirmed.
Pierce Purcell 16th/17th May 2020 in Delgany Golf Club.

Cullen Cup team into final

Well done to the Cullen Cup team who beat New Ross on Sunday to advance to the final in Baltinglass in a few weeks. The team is managed by Nuala and Pat Mahon. Details of the final will be posted once we have them.

Cullen Cup team lead after 1st leg

Nuala and Pat Mahon’s Cullen Cup team won 4 of their 5 away matches in the 1st leg of the semi final in New Ross on bank holiday Monday. Well done to all involved and thanks to those who came down in support. The return leg is in Greystones on Sunday next (August 11) at 11.30 with the prize of an interclub final awaiting. Best of luck to the whole team.
