Iris Haughton’s report to the Ladies’ AGM

LADY CAPTAIN JEANNE, PRESIDENT VIA, VICE CAPTAIN JOSEPHINE AND LADIES.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE LADY CAPTAIN, HER COMMITTEE AND ALL THE LADIES FOR YOUR SUPPORT TOWARDS THE JUNIOR GIRLS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. . THE LADY CAPTAIN WAS VERY KEEN FOR THE GIRLS TO INTERGRATE MORE INTO THE LADIES SECTION. AT LEAST 15 OF THE GIRLS PLAYED IN 18 HOLE COMPETITIONS THROUGH OUT THE SUMMER AND AT LEAST 25 PLAYED IN THE 9 HOLE QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS.  THIS YEAR TWO OUR OUR 12 YEAR OLDS, JESSICA MAXWELL AND AISLING MARMION  WERE SELECTED TO PLAY ON THE CHALLENGE TEAM. AISLING MARMION WON HER 1ST MATCH 7&6, WHICH IS A GREAT START TO HER GOLFING CAREER.

THIS IS MY 8TH YEAR AS CONVENOR AND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL  ONE SO FAR.

FOR THE 1ST TIME IN ITS 35 YEAR HISTORY GREYSTONES QUALIFIED FOR THE ALL IRELAND MAY FITZGIBBON FOURSOMES FINALS AND LAOISE HORGAN AND AISLING MARMION WERE FANTASTIC IN COMING RUNNERS UP. LAOISE AND HER DAD DELAYED THEIR HOLIDAY TO PORTUGAL BY 5 DAYS SO LAOISE COULD PLAY. LAOISE WAS ON HER WAY TO THE AIRPORT WHEN A VERY EMOTIONAL JUNIOR CONVENOR PHONED HER WITH THE GOOD NEWS.

ALSO  THIS YEAR GREYSTONES GIRLS WON THE WICKLOW GIRLS TROPHY NARROWLY BEATING A VERY STRONG DUNLAOGHAIRE TEAM BY ONE POINT. LAOISE HORGAN CAME 2ND IN THE SINGLES AND JESSICA MAXWELL AND AISLING MARMION WON THE SCOTCH FOURSOMES. ALSO ON THE TEAM WERE KATIE O’BRYNE, CAROLYN BYRNE, SOPHIE NICHOLSON, SIBEAL KELLY, AILBHE O’FLAHERTY AND JUDE KELLLIHER

LAOISE HORGAN WON BOTH THE LADY CAPTAINS AND THE PROFESSIONAL PRIZES. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE  JEANNE FOR HER BEAUTIFUL PRIZE AND A LOVELY DAY AND TO KARL HIS GENEROUS PRIZE.

AISLING MARMION WHO MICHELLE MENTIONED EARLIER DROPPED 13 SHOTS THIS YEAR ALSO WON THE ILGU JUNIOR MEDAL 2015 AND FOR THE 1ST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF OUR CLUB A GREYSTONES PLAYER QUALIFIED FOR THE ALL IRELAND MEDAL FINAL, WHICH HAS THE TOP 60 JUNIOR GIRLS IN THE COUNTRY PLAYING. AINE REID HAS ALSO QUALIFIED IN THE U12 SECTION.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MICHELLE FOR ALL HER HELP WITH THE HANDICAPS FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS AND WISH HER WELL IN HER RETIREMENT.                                      I WOULD LIKE TO THANK DAVID LEWIS FOR ALL HIS COACHING WORK WITH THE GIRLS, DAVID IS INCREDIBLY GENEROUS WITH HIS TIME.  WE RECEIVED THE ILGU GRANT OF 350 AGAIN THIS YEAR AND THE CLUB  VERY GENEROUSLY MATCHED IT.
